NeoAir XLite NXT Sleeping Pad
We built the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT sleeping pad for backpackers and thru-hikers who refuse to choose between warmth and pack weight. At just 12 ounces for the regular length, this is our lightest three-season pad with an R-value of 4.5.
Our exclusive ThermaCapture™ technology traps radiant heat inside triangular core baffles, delivering exceptional warmth without adding bulk. The horizontal baffles create stable, edge-to-edge support that keeps you centered through the night.
We use a 30-denier ripstop fabric on top and a 20-denier fabric on the bottom to balance durability with weight savings. The WingLock™ valve inflates the pad three times faster than traditional valves and features one-way inflation that prevents air loss while you're still blowing.
What makes the XLite NXT ultralight

ThermaCapture and Triangular Core Matrix construction
We engineered the NeoAir XLite NXT with two core technologies that work together to deliver warmth at minimal weight. Our ThermaCapture™ reflective barrier sits inside the pad and bounces radiant body heat back toward you, preventing heat from escaping into cold ground.
The Triangular Core Matrix™ baffle structure creates hundreds of individual cells that trap warm air and eliminate cold convection currents. Unlike traditional horizontal baffles alone, the internal truss design adds stability while maintaining flexibility over uneven terrain.

Fabric durability and weight balance
We use two different fabric weights on the NeoAir XLite NXT to optimize durability where it matters most. The 30-denier ripstop nylon top surface resists punctures from sharp tent floors, gravel, and pine cones. The 20-denier bottom fabric saves weight in the area that sees less abrasion when you’re sleeping on a tent footprint or groundsheet.
Both fabrics feature a quiet, non-slip finish that reduces the crinkle noise common in earlier air pad designs. We also added horizontal welding seams instead of vertical ones to distribute stress more evenly when you shift position at night.
WingLock valve and inflation system
Our WingLock™ valve replaced the twist-lock design from earlier NeoAir models and cuts inflation time by two-thirds. The valve opens with a single push and features an internal flap that allows air in but prevents backflow when you pause between breaths.
You can inflate the regular-length pad in 10–15 breaths instead of the 30+ breaths required by traditional valves. The wide bore also accepts our Pump Sack accessory for zero-moisture inflation in humid or freezing conditions where breath condensation can freeze inside the pad.

Common questions about the NeoAir XLite NXT
The regular-length pad inflates in 10 to 15 full breaths using the WingLock valve. The valve's wide bore and one-way internal flap let you take breaks between breaths without losing air. For zero-moisture inflation in cold weather, pair it with our NeoAir Pump Sack accessory, which inflates the pad in about 30 seconds of rolling the sack.
The NXT generation added the WingLock valve for faster inflation, updated the baffle geometry for better edge stability, and improved the fabric coating to reduce noise. The R-value increased from 4.2 to 4.5 through refined ThermaCapture placement. The packed size also shrank by about half an inch in diameter compared to the previous version.
The XLite NXT's R-value of 4.5 handles most three-season trips down to around 20°F when combined with an appropriate sleeping bag. For sustained winter camping, ice climbing, or snow travel below 20°F, we recommend the NeoAir XTherm NXT, which delivers an R-value of 7.3. Some users layer the XLite NXT over a closed-cell foam pad for added winter insulation and puncture protection.
Every XLite NXT includes a repair kit with adhesive-backed fabric patches. Clean the puncture area with a damp cloth, let it dry, then apply the patch over the hole and press firmly for 30 seconds. The adhesive bonds in about two minutes. For best results, keep the patch under pressure for five minutes before re-inflating. The patches work on both the 30-denier top and 20-denier bottom fabrics.
The NeoAir XLite NXT ships with a nylon stuff sack and a repair kit. It does not include a pump. Our separately available NeoAir Pump Sack adds moisture-free inflation for humid or freezing conditions where breath condensation can freeze inside the pad overnight. The pump sack also doubles as a waterproof gear bag during the day.
The regular width measures 20 inches, which accommodates most back and stomach sleepers comfortably. Side sleepers with broader shoulders or those who move frequently at night often prefer the regular wide at 25 inches. The wide version adds 2 ounces but provides extra elbow room and reduces the chance of rolling off the edge during the night.
Deflation takes about 30 seconds. Press the center of the WingLock valve to open it fully, then roll the pad tightly from the foot end toward the valve. Air exits through the same large opening used for inflation. Once the air is out, fold the pad in thirds lengthwise, roll it from the bottom, and slide it into the included stuff sack.
